Tura, October 31: The Meghalaya Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in a joint operation with West Garo Hills police, apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and seized 112.52 grams of suspected heroin during a checkpoint operation at Tikrikilla on Saturday.

Acting on credible intelligence, the joint team intercepted the two men and conducted searches under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, according to a police press release.

The suspected heroin was recovered from 10 plastic soap boxes and is estimated to be worth approximately ₹60 lakh in the illicit market. Police also seized two vehicles and three mobile phones during the operation.

The arrested persons were identified as Shahadot Ali (31), a resident of Rakhyasini Jungle Block, and Rejaul Islam (31), from Helapokri, both under Mornoi police station in Assam’s Goalpara district.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Tikrikilla police station.

Police suspect that the two men may have links to a larger interstate drug trafficking network. The ANTF is investigating their alleged supply and distribution links to identify other individuals involved.

The task force has also appealed to the public to share information about suspected drug trafficking activities, assuring that the identities of informants will remain confidential and suitable rewards will be provided for credible information.
