Shillong, October 31: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has expressed his commitment to serving as a bridge between different communities, strengthening unity, harmony and mutual understanding among residents of the 17-North Shillong Constituency.

He was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by the constituency’s Organising Committee on Saturday to honour residents for their achievements in education and sports, as well as their contributions to society.

The programme brought together people from different communities, including non-Khasi residents. Addressing the gathering, Adelbert said he considered all residents members of one community and was committed to fostering a sense of unity and belonging irrespective of ethnic backgrounds.

He said he wanted to connect different communities, strengthen relationships and work towards building a peaceful and harmonious society.

Explaining the purpose of the programme, Adelbert said it was an opportunity to recognise people’s contributions, appreciate their achievements and celebrate together as one family, united in spirit and voice.

He also congratulated the awardees, acknowledging their accomplishments and contributions to society, which had brought the community together for the occasion.

During the programme, the Organising Committee felicitated 400 senior residents and individuals for their contributions to society, 50 young academic achievers and 30 sportspersons, along with others who had brought recognition to the constituency and the state.
