Shillong, November 8: Archbishop of Shillong Victor Lyngdoh on Sunday declared 2027 as the Year of Youth for the Archdiocese of Shillong during the annual Eucharistic procession at Laitumkhrah, marking the conclusion of the archdiocese’s 2026 Year of the Faithful.
Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Lyngdoh said the Church loves young people and places great hope in them. He urged them to step forward whenever the Church needs them, stand up for their faith and live as committed Christians with courage.
Reminding the youth that Christ is victorious, the archbishop encouraged them to strengthen their faith through prayer and remain steadfast during life’s challenges. He also urged them to use media platforms responsibly, nurture their spiritual lives and maintain calm in the face of difficulties.
The Eucharistic procession was organised by Mary Help of Christians Parish, Laitumkhrah, under the theme, “By the Power of the Eucharist, We Are Called to Be the Salt of the Earth and the Light of the World.”
Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, led the procession, carrying the Blessed Sacrament aboard a specially decorated vehicle.
Hundreds of faithful joined the procession, offering prayers and singing hymns as it passed through Laitumkhrah, Dhankheti and Madan Ïewrynghep on its way to Calvary.
