SHILLONG, AUG 31: The Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) has said the state government’s resolution on uranium mining must be followed by concrete action, particularly in Domiasiat.

HANM president Lamphrangsngi Kharbani welcomed the resolution but said people near uranium-rich areas need safeguards on the ground, not just statements. 

He demanded a transparent probe into allegations of private land purchases around uranium deposits to facilitate future acquisition.

Drawing a parallel with ILP, he said both resolutions remain on paper and the government must pursue implementation with the Centre with determination.

Kharbani said no economic or strategic interest should override health, safety and environmental concerns, and urged the government to take legal and administrative steps to close uranium-related activities.
