BJP demands removal of Meghalaya DGP

Shillong Feb 15: The BJP has petitioned to the Election Commission demanding removal of Meghalaya Director General of Police S B Singh for allegedly campaigning for chief minister Mukul Sangma.

The BJP also informed that hate speeches and communalisation of the elections is a common occurrence in violation of the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act.

The saffron party demanded immediate removal of the DGP and appointment of a neutral one by the Election Commission.

The complaint was sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, who is in the state to review poll-preparedness.

The party alleged that the police chief along with some other police officers have been openly campaigning on behalf of the chief minister and also demanded criminal actions against hate mongers.

The party has also accused the Chief Minister of rigging the elections in his constituency using militants.
