Shillong, Feb 15: Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma kick-started his campaign for Congress candidates in Khasi hills from Mawkynrew Thursday.
The chief minister who was ferried by helicopter, reach Jongksha village where thousands of supporters waited for him to land and address the rally to garner support for Congress candidate from Mawkynrew, Olet Kharsohnoh.
Along with the chief minister, Congress MP from Shillong, Vincent H. Pala also campaigned for Kharsohnoh.
This is the second time that the chief minister went and campaigned in Mawkynrew constituency. The last campaign was at Thynroit village for former Congress candidate, Banteidor Lyngdoh during the elections to autonomous district councils in 2014.
Lyngdoh has joined the newly floated People’s Democratic Front.
Addressing thousands of supporters at Jongksha football ground, the chief minister urged the people of Mawkynrew to support the Congress candidate and they need not worry as the “Congress would again form the government this year.â€
He also highlighted the works done by the present Congress-led government and its initiatives in setting a new bench mark to take care of growth and prosperity of the state.
“The focus of the government has always been to take care of the poor, ensure their livelihood and upscale farm produces,†he said.
He also lauded the beauty of places in Mawkynrew constituency where tourism can be promoted in a big way and underlined the need to promote high end tourism in the state.
The chief minister did not forget to mention Laitlum village in the constituency where a a large number of tourists visited the village to enjoy the scenary and people came to know about the place after the shooting of the movie, Rock On-2.
He said that his government has a lot more to do in uplifting the state and urged the people to be wise in deciding the party that should lead the government.
The chief minister said that the NPP, PDF and other regional parties like the UDP, HSPDP cannot be trusted as they would with the BJP.
He also attacked the BJP-led NDA government for observing good governance day on Christmas day and alleged that agenda of the RSS is to divide the nation and take away rights and liberty of the citizens.
He said that the NPP, PDF and other regional parties would not fight the BJP but would surrender, unlike the Congress that can fight the BJP and defend the Jaitbynriew.
After addressing the rally at Jongksha he also went by helicopter to Nongjrong village one of the beautiful places that can attract tourists.
