Meghalaya will not observed Digital day on Good Friday

Shillong,April 13: BJP Jharkhand Unit, president and MP Laxman Gilua today said that a request has been made and the centre is working to change the date of observing digital day in Meghalaya which coincides with Good Friday in the state.
“It is a coincidence that the dates of Good Friday and digital day fall on the same day. We have made a request to centre to change the dates of observing digital day in Meghalaya and the centre is working on it,” said Gilua talking to newsmen in the city.
It may be recalled that the state government has decided against observing Digital India Day on April 14 because it coincides with Good Friday which is an important occasion for the state’s Christian-majority population. Chief minister Mukul Sangma took strong exception to the NDA government’s decision to hold the event on a sacred day, and stated that it was an attempt to “dilute the secular fabric of the nation”.
On the Goods and Services Tax or GST, Gilua said that the Goods and Service Tax (GST) will bring in lot of benefits for the country, state and traders community.
“GST would bring one tax regime in the country and it will definitely bring many positive changes in the country,” Gilua said.
On the upcoming 2018 Assembly polls in the state, Gilua informed that BJP is targeting to win atleast 40 seats.
He further said that said that the party is keen to have its own government in the state for which the preparations have already started, however,” We are also open for a coalition government,” he added.
When asked about forging an alliance, he said that the party is open for alliance with local parties of the state but alliance will be worked out only with the recommendations of the state unit’s president and party functionaries.
