BSF troops seize 699 cattle within one week along international border in Meghalaya

Shillong Dec 28: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have seized 699 cattle within one week along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya.
The number of cattle seized by the border guarding force went up to 699 after another 175 cattle along the Indo-Bangladesh border were seized on Friday night and wee hours of Saturday.
The seizure came after the BSF acted swiftly on intelligence inputs and continuous anti-smuggling drive.

On Friday night, two special operations were carried out in East Jaiñtia Hills where BSF personnel of the Border Outpost Jaliakhola and Border Outpost Kuliang seized 139 cattle in a jungle on the International Border.

These cattle were brought and concealed in thick foliage for smuggling into Bangladesh.

During the intervening night and wee hours of Saturday, the BSF in various other operations seized 36 more cattle and a truck, along the border.

The total cost of the seizure was Rs. 39.44 lakh.

Most of the seized cattle were those cattle which were auctioned by the authorities a few days back and were probably taken over by miscreants/smugglers.

The BSF personnel have been foiling attempts of smugglers by making huge seizure on the international border after intensifying its extra vigil round the clock.

“Smugglers are desperate to smuggle cattle trying to take advantage of the gaps and vulnerable areas and the BSF has repeatedly foiling their attempts,” the BSF statement said.
