SHILLONG, MAY 2: The state government today agreed to consider enhancing the grant-in-aid to government aided schools for increasing the salary of different categories of teachers by 100 percent.
“The proposal for salary enhancement to the different categories of teachers will be effective from January 1, this year,” chief minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
Informing that around Rs 63 crore would be sanctioned for implementing the 100 percent salary enhancement of teachers, Sangma said, “We would also request the school managing committees (SMCs) to see that the grant-in-aid is only for taking care of the salary expenditure.”
Asked, the chief minister said that around 2450 lower primary teachers, 2532 upper primary teachers, 1521 4th teachers in SSA schools and 844 Hindi teachers will be benefited from the enhancement.
He said the decision taken today will exclude secondary and higher secondary adhoc school teachers, whose salary have already been enhanced by the government earlier.
