Shillong,May 2: Top leaders and members of the Nongpoh Block Congress Committee (NBCC) today decided to quit the party.
“We have decided to resign from the party in view that the Congress led state government under the leadership of Mukul Sangma has disregarded our leader DD Lapang,” NBCC president CB Syiem told reporters at a press conference held on Tuesday.
He alleged that Lapang, who is the MPCC chief, has been humiliated by the state government when it refuses to pay any heed to the various demands made by him for the district.
Lapang, who is a former chief minister, is presently holding the post of chief adviser to the Government of Meghalaya.
According to Syiem, Lapang had made many requests for developmental schemes but only to be put down.
He also said there is also complete lack of understanding among the party members.
When asked, the former Congress leader from Nongpoh said that it would be difficult for the Congress in the upcoming 2018 state elections. According to him, regional parties in the state have a better chance to form the new government in the state.
