Shillong April 21: The Casual Worker’s Health Association (CWHA), Ri- Bhoi District today, has petitioned to the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on apprising him on the welfare of the casual workers in the Health Department of Ri -Bhoi district.
Shanrupa Thangkhiew, president of CWHA stated that the workers are facing problem from time to time. They have written and met the Minister in Charge Health Department and other officers of the Department to solve the problem but their requests are left unattended.
In the memorandum, the association stated that their salaries are being disbursed once in a year which cannot sustain their livelihood.
“We did not receive our salary for one year.” Shanrupa Thangkhiew, president of CWHA said.
In the memorandum, they stated that their salaries have been pending since April 2016 till date. They have requested the chief minister to take steps to release their unpaid salary as early as possible.
The association also demanded the chief minister to regularize casual workers as there are those who have served in the department for the last 10-15 years.
Thangkhiew expressed concern that some of the workers are also over age. He added that they are fully experience Vis-a-Vis their work and hence they deserve to be regularized.
At the same time, the association demanded equal pay for equal workers to all social workers as emphasized by the Union Government and upheld by the Supreme Court of India. If the Government through Health Department fail to fulfill their demand they will go to sit dharna in front of Civil Hospital Nongpoh.
