Shillong, June 14: Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today said that exhaustive action plan has been drawn along a number of interventions to ease traffic congestion in various parts of the state, while in forming that the state government has also prevailed upon Central government to consider all important roads of the state under Special Accelerated Road Development (SARDP).
The Chief Minister informed this after inaugurating a road connecting Khyndai Lad area with Polo via Earle Sanatorium in the presence of PWD (Roads) Minister, M.M. Danggo and Minister for Health and Family Welfare Roshan Warjri.
The Chief Minister while dedicating the asset to the people, said that such road project was an exercise to ease traffic congestion in Shillong, Tura and Jowai.
He also said that the road connecting Polo was a long felt need of the people, and the cost for creating infrastructure in urban centres has always been a challenge.
Danggo informed that the department was doing its best to improve road connectivity in the state adding that wherever land is available, roads would be widened and improved.
He also said that there has been tangible improvement in road connectivity in the state.
The cost of the 505 meters long road was Rs.7.58 crore. The land was donated free of cost by Earle Sanatorium Trust.
Also present at the function were senior officers of PWD (Roads) and representatives of local bodies from Oakland and Bivar Road.
