Shillong, June 25: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday strongly criticised the Central Government over the ongoing concerns surrounding India’s education system, particularly the NEET examination controversy, alleged paper leaks, and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Shillong, MPCC Social Media Chairman Bah L. War, accompanied by Working President Bah Manuel Badwar, expressed concern over what they described as growing uncertainty among students, parents and teachers due to repeated examination-related controversies.

L. War stated that the credibility of the country’s national examination system has suffered significantly, alleging that repeated irregularities and administrative lapses have eroded public trust in institutions responsible for conducting competitive examinations. He noted that lakhs of students dedicate years of preparation for examinations such as NEET with the hope of securing admission to medical colleges, only to face uncertainty arising from recurring controversies.

According to him, the National Testing Agency has repeatedly failed to conduct examinations in a transparent and credible manner, raising serious questions about its capacity to manage national-level entrance tests. He said such incidents have caused considerable mental stress to students and their families while undermining confidence in the examination process.

Emphasising the importance of safeguarding the future of the country’s youth, War said education must remain free from political interference and administrative negligence. He maintained that students deserve a fair, transparent and merit-based examination system where every candidate receives an equal opportunity to compete.

He further argued that issues such as paper leaks, examination malpractice and administrative failures directly affect deserving students and weaken public confidence in educational institutions. The Congress leader added that the challenges facing the education sector extend beyond NEET, pointing to broader concerns relating to examination uncertainty, policy changes and the overall quality and accessibility of education.

Speaking on the occasion, Manuel Badwar said the Congress Party stands in solidarity with students and their families who have been affected by repeated examination controversies. He urged the Central Government to take responsibility for the lapses and implement comprehensive reforms to strengthen the examination system.

The party demanded strict action against individuals involved in paper leaks and examination irregularities, while also calling for greater transparency, accountability and efficiency in the functioning of the National Testing Agency.

The Congress leaders asserted that restoring public confidence in India’s education system should be treated as a national priority and urged the Union Government to ensure that future examinations are conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner, free from malpractice and administrative shortcomings.
