Shillong, March 2 : Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar VM has taken over as the Senior Air Staff Officer at HQ Eastern Air Command, Shillong on March 1. Rajesh Kumar is an alumnus of Mayo College, Ajmer and National Defence Academy and was commissioned in the Indian Air Force (IAF) in June 1982 as a Flying Pilot. He is a Cat ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor, Instrument Rating Instructor and an Air Force Examiner. In addition to various staff appointments at Air headquarters, the Air Officer has commanded a front line Fighter Squadron and a front line Fighter base. He was the team leader of Air Force Project Monitoring Team for AWACS at Israel. For his distinguished service, he was awarded Vayu Sena Medal for Gallantry during Operation Parakram.
