SHILLONG, SEPT 15: Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 and said the exercise is on track for publication of the final electoral roll on October 21.

Chairing a virtual meeting with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, EROs, AEROs and political parties, Tiwari said 5,36,468 hearings have been completed out of 6,51,735 notices generated – an achievement of 82.31 per cent.

Of the 21,69,243 electors in the draft roll, notices were served in cases of ‘No Mapping’ (2,22,786) and mapping discrepancies (4,28,949). While 6,46,397 notices have been delivered, 5,190 are still pending.

The CEO said 542 electors have been found ineligible after scrutiny so far and directed officials to give every elector a fair chance to be heard.

“Receipt of a notice does not mean automatic deletion from the Electoral Roll. It provides the elector an opportunity to clarify the issue and furnish supporting documents,” he said, adding that no deletion will be made without following due procedure.

On claims and objections, Tiwari said 17,061 applications have been received, including 9,343 for inclusion (Form 6), 1,076 for deletion (Form 7) and 6,642 for shifting and correction (Form 8).

He appealed to voters whose names do not figure in the draft to apply within the extended deadline of September 18.

The CEO said 1,814 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from six recognised parties – NPP (736), BJP (393), VPP (320), INC (186), UDP (121) and AITC (58) – are assisting electors on the ground.

“The objective of SIR is to prepare an accurate, inclusive and transparent Electoral Roll,” Tiwari said.
