Shillong, Apr 14: The state government will decide on the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) polls after the delimitation process is completed.
Informing this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs Prestone Tynsong said, “The notification has come where the delimitation committee was set up and it is the duty of this committee to complete the task of conducting the delimitation process.”
“Once that is done, the House will send it to the Governor for approval. Once that is done, then only we will be able to tell you when we are going to have the elections.”
When asked if the government is waiting for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Tynsong said it is not necessary at this juncture.
“SIR is not within the concern of the state government, it has to be done by the Election Commission of India,” he said.
“Anytime when the order comes, we are ready for the SIR.”
The GHADC polls were postponed following violent protests in Garo Hills against the participation of non-tribal candidates in the elections.
