International Women’s Day observed in state

Shillong, March 8:  International Women’s Day is observed in the city today at Aijingshai Secondary School, Mawlai Mawiong Shillong on the theme “Bold for Change”. The programme is being organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with Meghalaya State Commission for Women, in which Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) Theilin Phanbuh was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Deputy Director Social Welfare Sandra Rngi as guest of honour. While addressing the gathering, Phanbuh said   that it’s high time for a women to be empower to lead the local dorbar since Meghalaya is a materinial state , citing that in other parts of India women are ahead of men to take part in the Panchayat.The government have proposed Women’s Reservation Bill or The Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, 2008, is still a lapsed bill in the Parliament of India .This bill which proposed to amend the Constitution of India to reserve 33% of all seats in the Lower house of Parliament of India, the Lok Sabha, and in all state legislative assemblies for women as number of male parliamentarians over the years have opposed the passing of the bill. Phanbuh added. On the auspicious day aganwadi workers delighted the function with a song.Dignitaries who present at the function were Deputy Director Social Welfare District Social Welfare Officer, East khasi Hills Smti.K.marbaniang, Balarisa Lyngdoh from NorthEast Network ,Mr.B. Marbaniang from Urban Mission Synod Sepngi, Aganwadis, Rangbah Shnong amongst others.
