Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for victims in road accident in WKH

Shillong, March 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia payment for the victims killed and injured in a road accident in West Khasi Hills district, where 19 people were killed, and 57 injured.

Home Minister H.D.R. Lyngdoh informed in the State Assembly today, that Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured persons has been sanctioned from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

It may be mentioned that on February 26, a truck that ferried over 70 church-goers overturned at Jadohkhroh near Nongstoiñ in West Khasi Hills district.

While replying to a zero hour notice brought in the Assembly by Opposition MLA of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party, K.P. Pangniang who represents Rambrai-Jyrngam Assembly constituency, the Home Minister said that Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured persons has been sanctioned from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

He said that the State Government has also decided to give an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50 thousand to the family of each deceased, and Rs 10 thousand each to the injured. (EoM)
