Shillong, Sept 18: The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has challenged KHADC member, James Ban Basaiawmoit, who recently joined the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), for an open debate on the allegations he made against the party.
“If he (Basaiawmoit) wants the people to be aware of the actual fact, we urged him to arrange for an open debate with us,” KHNAM discipline committee chairman, James A Neng said in a statement issued here on Monday.
He was reacting to the recent allegations made by Basaiawmoit that the people have no more faith in KHNAM.
“The MDC has forgotten the fact that he was able to win the elections two times because he contested from the party. He was rejected many times by the people when he contested from other political parties,” Neng said.
He said that the disciplinary committee of the party had issued a showcause notice to Basaiawmoit because of anti-party activity which goes against the party’s constitution.
However, instead of replying to the showcause notice, he tendered his resignation letter which was already welcomed by the party, he added.
According to Neng, the party cannot hold back anyone if they want to shift their allegiance to other parties.
However, the party is only concern on the way the MDC is trying to tarnish the image of the KHNAM which is uncalled for, he said adding that it would be better for Basaiawmoit to make the arrangement for a debate so that people know and are not misled by such claims.
