Banjop Dkhar becomes sixth KSU leader arrested in connection with August 19 motorcycle rally violence

Shillong, September 12: Meghalaya Police have arrested Banjop Dkhar, president of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shillong Mihngi Circle, in connection with incidents linked to the KSU motorcycle rally held on August 19.

According to reports, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Dkhar near NEIGRIHMS on Friday night. He was subsequently produced before a court on Saturday.

Dkhar is the sixth KSU leader arrested in connection with the rally, during which clashes reportedly broke out, vehicles and other property were damaged, and several people sustained injuries.

The five other KSU leaders already in judicial custody are central body president Raymond Kharjana, vice-president Pynskhemlang Sanmiet, general secretary Rueben Najiar, assistant organising secretary Jeremiah Pohthmi and Shillong Mihngi Circle general secretary Samuel Kharbani.

Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to identify and apprehend others allegedly involved in the August 19 incidents.
