Nongpoh, April 29, 2026: Despite steady progress and dedicated efforts by the management of Diwon Secondary School in Ri-Bhoi district to provide quality education and maintain adequate infrastructure, certain gaps continue to persist, highlighting the need for community support.
Although the school has been functioning efficiently in terms of academic delivery and basic facilities, challenges remain in meeting the growing needs of students. The school authorities have acknowledged that support from well-meaning individuals is essential to address these shortcomings.
Following discussions with the school authorities, Principal Babu F. Manih highlighted the urgent need for additional benches and desks. While some furniture is available, much of it is worn out and insufficient due to the increasing number of students and expansion of classrooms each year.
Responding positively to the appeal, local resident Arnold Syngkli, who serves as Chairman of the Nongtluh Mathan Marmain Development Forum, stepped forward to assist. Known for his commitment to community welfare, he donated 60 benches and desks (30 sets) to the school.
A brief handover programme was organised, during which the furniture was formally presented to Principal Babu F. Manih in the presence of teachers, students, the village headman—who also serves as Chairman of the School Managing Committee—and other community members.
Speaking on the occasion, Syngkli recalled his own days as a student of the same school, noting that infrastructure was far more limited at the time. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has received in life and said he felt a strong responsibility to give back to the institution that shaped his early education.
He added that his aim is to ensure that current students receive better learning conditions, including proper seating arrangements and a conducive academic environment.
The school authorities and students expressed heartfelt gratitude for the generous contribution, acknowledging that the donation will significantly improve classroom conditions and support the learning process.
