Shillong, May 7: A’chik SCO Rongjeng signed off from the 5th Meghalaya State League in style with a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Balmanduri FC in Group G at Williamnagar on Wednesday.

In another match, Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC defeated Lamyrsiang SCC 3-0 in Group E at Wahiajer. Both sides had already secured third and fourth place respectively before the fixture.

Although neither ASCOR nor Balmanduri were in contention for qualification, both teams produced an entertaining contest. Balmanduri looked set for victory in the first half after Chichang M Momin struck twice in quick succession in the 27th and 33rd minutes.

ASCOR, however, mounted a spirited second-half comeback. Captain Sensial Sangma pulled one back in the 54th minute before Klubarth M Sangma restored parity in the 78th minute. Keri G Momin then netted the winner in the 88th minute to complete the turnaround.

The victory ensured ASCOR finished third in Group G, ending their campaign with four wins and four defeats from eight matches.

Keri G Momin has emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament, taking his tally to 13 goals this season — currently the second-highest in the league.

Balmanduri still have one remaining group-stage fixture against table-toppers Janepih YSCA in two days’ time.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s fixtures will see Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC take on Shillong Lajong FC in Group E at Wahiajer, while Lawbah SC face Mishon SSCC in Group F at Mairang.

While Shillong Lajong and Lumphyrnai have already booked their places in the pre-quarterfinals, the Group F encounter remains crucial, with Lawbah needing a massive win to overtake Mishon for second place.
