SHILLONG, MAY 8: Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday said the National People’s Party (NPP)
has not yet taken any decision regarding its nominee for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters, Dhar was responding to queries on demands from sections in Garo Hills projecting James Sangma as a possible candidate for the Upper House.
“There is no problem with such suggestions, but we are yet to take a decision. Let his tenure complete first, then we will sit as a party,” Dhar said.
He was referring to sitting Rajya Sabha MP W.R. Kharlukhi, whose term is expected to end in June.
“I think his tenure will end in June but I am not very sure,” Dhar added.
On whether the party would consider regional representation while selecting its nominee, Dhar said the NPP does not take decisions on a region-wise basis.
“We never think region wise. Whatever the party thinks appropriate we will go with that because it is a collective decision, not a one-man-show decision,” he said.
Describing the NPP as a disciplined organisation, Dhar said all major decisions are taken collectively by the party leadership.
“The NPP is a very disciplined party. We always take everything on board,” he added.
