Shillong, August 25: Nangkiew Irat secured their first win of the Shillong Premier League 2026 season after defeating Laitkor 2-0 at the SSA Stadium here on Tuesday.

Ronaldkydon L Nonglait opened the scoring in the 67th minute with a superb left-footed strike from outside the box, before Jefferson Pakyntein sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal in the 90th+4 minute.

Both teams created attacking opportunities in a lively first half but failed to break the deadlock.

Jefferson came close in the 15th minute when his effort was brilliantly parried by Laitkor goalkeeper Deranius Wahlang, although the rebound fell just beyond the reach of another Nangkiew Irat player at the far post.

Laitkor responded strongly, with Kitdor Kharphuli firing twice at goal within seconds of a corner in the 21st minute. Both efforts were blocked by Nangkiew Irat defenders.

Shelbilkstar Kharshilot then came close for Laitkor around the half-hour mark, while Nangkiew Irat veteran Dibinroy Nongspung attempted a cheeky back-heel from a Sangti Janai Shianglong cross in stoppage time, but his effort went wide.

Nangkiew Irat made attacking substitutions early in the second half, with Yhoto Lohe among those introduced. Yhoto produced a dangerous effort just before the hour mark, threading the ball between two defenders, but Deranius made another excellent save.

The Laitkor goalkeeper had kept his side in the game until the 67th minute, when Ronaldkydon produced a sublime finish from outside the box to put Nangkiew Irat ahead.

Laitkor attempted to find an equaliser but were unable to create a clear scoring opportunity in the second half.

Nangkiew Irat eventually doubled their advantage deep into stoppage time. Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw played a well-weighted through ball, which Jefferson controlled expertly before finding the net to register his second goal of the season.

Laitkor had won their previous match against Mylliem, while Nangkiew Irat entered the game after drawing with Nongkseh.

Tomorrow’s Match

Bottom-placed Mylliem will face Mawlai tomorrow at 3:40 pm.

Mylliem have lost both of their opening matches, while Mawlai have collected four points and are yet to concede a goal this season.
