Shillong, Feb 22: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will decide its new candidate for Williamnagar constituency to replace Late Jonathone N. Sangma, who was killed in a recent IED attack.
The meeting to be held in East Garo Hills district on Friday may urged the wife of Jonathone to consider contesting in her husband’s place.
“The party is holding a meeting where people will decide who should be the candidate of the party from Williamnagar constituency ,†NCP state general secretary SP Thapa told reporters here on Thursday.
Initially, the NCP has fielded 21 candidates for the February 27 Assembly polls.
Thapa said that the party would also request the wife of Jonathone to consider contesting in her husband’s place.
“We feel that she should contest the election. I as a party man would request her to contest as we have to find a new candidate for the constituency,†he said.
The NCP has termed the killing of Jonathone a political murder and demanded that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should investigate.
NCP state working president Vijay Raj expressed confidence that his party will win from all 20 seats.
