Shillong, Feb 22: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has assured of seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention of to solve the long pending inter-state boundary dispute with Assam in its manifesto released here on Thursday.
The NCP is fielding 20 candidates for the February 27 Assembly polls. The party is yet to decide its candidate from Williamnagar constituency after Jonathone N Sangma was killed in an IED blast last Sunday.
Among many promises, the NCP in its 10-page manifesto released by state working president, Vijay Raj, talked about framing of state mining policy, setting up of anti-corruption vigilance commission, pursue Majithia Wage Board recommendation for benefits of journalists, strengthen border areas and empower border people economically, set up international markets to encourage border trade with neighboring countries, upgrade existing infrastructure like Umroi airport Khasi Hills and Baljek airport, introduce railway lines along with strong preventive measures against influx, improve road infrastructure in rural areas without compromising quality.
The manifesto said that NCP MLAs should fund two students per year to become IAS officers, bring out education policy by emphasizing more on skill development to address unemployment problem and encourage local private investors to establish educational institutions, ensure good governance and setting up of anti-corruption vigilance commission, ensure accessibility to healthcare facilities and provide free medicine to cancer patients and other costlier treatments by setting up an open generic medicine outlet in every district, legislate a law for traditional institutions, promote tourism and make sure that tourist vehicles from outside should stop at Shillong so that tourists could visit various places by using local vehicles.
