Mairang, June 23: Nearly a year after the brutal murder of young woman Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew, members of her family and leaders of the Kharsyntiew Seng Kur on Tuesday met the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Eastern West Khasi Hills District to seek an update on the progress of the case.

The delegation comprised office bearers of the Kharsyntiew Seng Kur Central Body and Mairang Unit, Phyrnailin’s father and brother, as well as the Sordar and Secretary of Mawkhap village.

During the meeting, the SP informed the delegation that the police have completed all necessary procedures related to the investigation. He stated that a chargesheet has already been filed against the accused and that the case has been forwarded to the court for further legal proceedings.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Allfondbirth Kharsyntiew, General Secretary of the Kharsyntiew Seng Kur Central Body, thanked the SP for granting them an audience and providing clarity on the status of the investigation.

He said the Kur remains hopeful that the judicial process will ensure justice for Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew, whose death last year sent shockwaves across the district.

According to the family and community leaders, they continue to place their faith in the legal system and are seeking a fair and expeditious trial so that justice may be delivered to the young woman.

Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew was allegedly attacked with a machete by her boyfriend last year, an incident that sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of women in the state.

With the case now before the court, the victim’s family and the wider community remain hopeful that the legal process will reach its conclusion and bring justice to Phyrnailin.
