NER states get funds from NEC to fight COVID-19

Shillong Mar 03: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned funds for states in the North East to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sanction of funds came after a detailed review meeting chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh through video conferencing on March 27, which was participated by officers of the Ministry of DoNER and North Eastern Council (NEC).

The meeting among others had deliberated at length the COVID-19 pandemic and measures being taken to meet the challenges arising out of it in the North Eastern Region.

The meeting also decided that the DoNER/NEC should provide support of Rs. 25 crore to the North Eastern States in support of their efforts to fight the outbreak.

The DoNER minister shared that concerted efforts is already happening and all efforts will be made to ensure that the North East States are supported in this hour of need, particularly related to medical needs and essential commodities.
