SHILLONG, NOV 4: The NPP on Wednesday strengthened its position in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council after two of its Executive Members quit the TMC to join the ruling party.

Williamnagar MDC Alphonsush R Marak and Kharkutta MDC Cherak Watre Momin, both Executive Members in the GHADC, along with BRDA chairman Agassi R Marak and retired MCS officer Pius D Sangma joined the NPP at a function here.

The joining took place in presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also NPP national president, state president Prestone Tynsong and national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar.

Responding to a query on ticket allocation, Conrad K Sangma said, “The party will decide, we will all sit together right now there are no conditions that has been put, that so and so has to be given ticket or not or there are no conditions that so and so will stand and the other will not, we will see the outcome, we will see how situations, we will see as a party, what is in the best interest of the party and we believe that we’ll be making a decision that will be unanimous and that will carry our people together and this combination that you see of leaders coming in and joining will only benefit us in positive manner and therefore we expect and we believe that whatever decision we take based on the political situation on the ground, things will move forward in a right direction.”

Highlighting the delimitation exercise, Tynsong said, “Electoral Roll of the newly proposed constituencies in the entire Garo Hills, so this is the biggest achievement I should say that the party has done for the interest of Garo Hills region, nobody else could do it, no other political party who could do that.”

Dhar said, “In the last week we welcomed 3 MLAs from different political parties and today again received 3 MDCs, it seems 3 numbers is lucky for the NPP. I thank all the friends because with all joining the NPP party I am very sure that our party will be strengthened from day to day. With this we will perform very well in this coming MDC election in GHADC.”
