Shillong, April 23, 2026: Vincent H. Pala, former Member of Parliament from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, has strongly rejected allegations that he remained inactive during his 15-year tenure in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing a public meeting at Mylliem Block, Pala termed the claims that he had merely “sat idle” as baseless, asserting that he worked consistently for the development of the constituency and its people. He said that many citizens are aware of his contributions and that it is unfair to circulate allegations without factual backing.
“Public service is not just about speeches, but about tangible work that people can witness,” he stated, urging voters to evaluate leaders based on their performance rather than political rhetoric.
Responding to recent criticisms over his tenure, Pala highlighted that he had actively raised key issues concerning the state in Parliament, including discussions on the Inner Line Permit and efforts to secure central funding support from the Union Government.

He also encouraged the public to verify his parliamentary contributions through official records available on the Lok Sabha website.
Significantly, Pala underscored his role in advocating for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. He noted that while the demand is yet to be realised, raising the issue in Parliament marked an important step toward preserving the linguistic and cultural identity of Meghalaya’s indigenous communities.
Emphasising the broader significance of the demand, Pala said that the push for inclusion of Khasi goes beyond politics, representing a continued effort to safeguard the cultural heritage and identity of the people of the state.
