Party will iron out pre-poll alliance complications, says UDP leader

Shillong, June 9: United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Bindo M Lanong said that complications arising out of the decision to have pre-poll alliance with the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) were being sorted out.

Lanong’s statement came a day after UDP MDC from Nongkrem, H.S. Shylla has demanded the resignation of UDP chief Donkupar Roy on the ground that he (Roy) has made a blunder by agreeing to an alliance with the HSPDP without proper consultation, which would surely affect the UDP in the upcoming Assembly election.

“We (party leaders) are trying to iron out these complications. Complications will be there, be it pregnancy of a living thing, or pregnancy of a political party. Until the alliance is born, we can only hope that everything will be fine,” Lanong said.

Lanong however said that he has nothing to comment on Shylla’s demand (resignation of Donkupar).

On Thursday, Shylla had said that he would soon leave the UDP, and confirmed that he would contest the Assembly poll from Nongkrem, “since his supporters were not happy with his earlier decision to support HSPDP chief, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.”
