Shillong, Oct 27: The All Meghalaya Adhoc Upper Primary School Teachers’ Associatioon (AMAUPSTA) has urged the state government to upgrade all adhoc upper primary schools to deficit pattern in the state.
“We request the state government to upgrade, if possible, all adhoc UP schools to deficit pattern. If not, we pray that this be done in a phase manner and only those schools that have enrolled with the association,” president of the association, BR Thabah said in a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, Mukul Sangma here on Friday.
Thabah informed that the adhoc UP school at present are having only four teachers, while deficits and government UP schools has six teachers. Therefore, one science and one Hindi teacher are needed to generalize the number of teachers as deficit and government UP schools and make teaching more effective, he added.
During the meeting, the delegation of the association also felicitated the chief minister as a mark of expressing their gratitude to the state government for enhancing the teachers’ salaries of adhoc schools.
However, they urged the chief minister to consider enhancement of salary for adhoc UP teachers to ensure equal pay for equal work.
According to Thabah, SSA teachers in UP schools, which came into existence for just a decade, are availing salary of Rs 20,400, while teachers in adhoc schools, who have been serving for over four decades, are getting only Rs 16,000.
He informed that the chief minister has assured the delegation that the matter would be examined by the state government.
Meanwhile, the association has also urged the government to ensure monthly release of teachers’ salary instead of releasing on a quarterly basis.
