Shillong, September 30: A tourist taxi plunged into a gorge at Puriang in East Khasi Hills district, killing the driver and leaving five passengers injured.

According to police, the red Maruti Swift bearing registration number ML-04-D-8730 was carrying six people, including the driver, when the accident occurred.

The five injured passengers were rushed to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.

The driver, identified as Wengnoh Pajuh, a resident of Tongseng Nongkhlieh village in East Jaintia Hills district, succumbed to his injuries. His body was taken to Mawryngkneng Community Health Centre.

The vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash, while the exact cause of the accident remained unknown at the time of filing this report.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
