Two subway bridges washed away in SWGH following incessant rain

 

Shillong, May 16: Two roads in South West Garo Hills district have been closed for vehicular traffic after two subway bridges were completely washed away following incessant rain.

According to Assistant Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), Mahendraganj Sub-Division, the two subway bridges, one at Gopinathkilla and the other at Bakdagre near Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills were washed away on Sunday morning following incessant rain throughout the night.

The PWD (Roads) official informed that in view of the damage, the Garobadha-Dalu (NH 51) road and Purakhasia-Mahendraganj road were closed for vehicular traffic till completion of the restoration work.

The closure was necessitated in the interest of the general public to speed up the restoration process for conveyance of travelers, and rescue and delivery of relief materials to the affected families.
