Shillong Feb 5: Congress legislator from Rajabala Dr Azad Aman has slammed the state government for allegedly directing the police to arrest “innocent” students in connection with the recent leakage of MTET question paper.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Dr Aman said, “…the government is supposed to call the CBI or institute other high level inquiry but unfortunately government is directing the police to arrest innocent students.”

Stating that the incident reflects the total failure on the part of the state government, the Congress leader further alleged, “government just to divert the attention of the people and in order to save their skin is making innocent students as scapegoat.”

Terming the arrest as ‘unlawful and illegal’, he said the motive and intention of the state government behind the leakage of MTET question paper is “unholy” and urged the Meghalaya High Court to take suo-moto case on the matter.

He also questioned the police for not arresting the original culprit and those who were entrusted to set the question papers, those who print the question papers and those who are looking after the question papers.

Dr Aman however said that he has no intention to interfere with the police investigation but innocent students should not be harassed.

He alleged that the candidates of MTET examination, who are from his constituency, were called by Tura police and booked them under serious sections of the law. According to him, the authority went ahead to conduct the examination even after some of the candidates had informed about the paper leak incident.
