Shillong, Jan 10: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) has decided to organize protest against official functions of both central and state ministers till the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) is achieved.
The CoMSO in its meeting held on Friday also resolved to file a petition in Supreme Court for immediate scrapping of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, which seeks to provide citizenship to minorities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It also warned stern action against interested groups allegedly lobbying in New Delhi not to implement the ILP.
CoMSO Chairman, Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters that the conglomeration has unanimously decided not to accept the CAA at any cost.
“We are preparing to file a petition in Supreme Court by next week, if everything goes as decided. With or without ILP, we will continue to protest against the CAA till it is scrapped or declared unconstitutional,†he said.
Kharjahrin also condemned the BJP-led NDA government for delaying to give its decision on the demand for ILP in the state. “The Centre is even yet to call the state government delegation for discussion on the resolution passed by the Assembly on this regard,†he said.
The CoMSO also announced its decision to continue to protest till the Centre implements the ILP in the state.
“We will organize protests against all official functions of union ministers as a mark of opposition against the step-motherly treatment by the Centre. We will also protest against state ministers as the government seems to be sitting idle on this issue,†he said .
On the other hand, Kharjahrin also alleged that there are vested interest groups who are campaigning against the ILP demand in New Delhi. “We issue a strong warning against these people that they should immediately stop otherwise we will take stern action will be taken. They should respect the sentiments of the people of the state,†he said.
The CoMSO has also condemned the statements of the Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, BJP minister AL Hek and others which according to them is more or less against the demand for ILP.
“In view of this, we have decided to distribute one lakh leaflets to make people aware that implementation of ILP will not affect the Sixth schedule status of the state,†Kharjahrin said.
Meanwhile, the CoMSO also appealed to all traditional institutions to adopt a resolution for demanding ILP in the state.
Kharjahrin also expressed confidence that the demand for ILP will be fulfilled adding “Because we will continue to fight till we get it.â€
