Mawpat block inaugurated, Dorbar Shnong donates 3.14 acres for permanent office

Shillong, July 18: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly created Mawpat Community and Rural Development Block at Mawpat in the presence of C&RD Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, Pynthorumkhrah MLA, A.L. Hek, Nongthymmai MLA, Dr Jemino Mawthoh and MLA, Mawryngkneng, David Nongrum.

In his address the Chief Minister expressing his happiness over the creation of Mawpat C&RD Block and said that the government was committed to addressing disparities in development in all sectors.

He informed that the government has rolled out a number of initiatives to bridge the gaps in development but they have not been fully materialized to achieve the desired outcomes.

Terming Community and Rural Development Blocks as “epicenters” through which all schemes and programmes of the government are initiated, He said that the creation of the block was a humble beginning for future prosperity of the area.
He was of the view that creation of C&RD block outside the city would also address congestion in Shillong city.

“Growth and development are linked to a peaceful and conducive environment” he said while urging people to partner with the government in all its developmental initiatives.

He also stressed the need to take care of the interests of the youth and create opportunities for education and livelihood opportunities so that the youth is not compelled to migrate to other cities in search of job and better education.

Mawpat C & RD Block is the 45th block of the state after carving out of Mylliem C&RD Block.

The newly created block will cover three Assembly constituencies. The Mawpat Dorbar Shnong has donated 3.14 acres of land free of cost at Mawpat Pyllun for he establishment of permanent office of the Block.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the permanent office campus and inaugurated the temporary office building of the block.

ON the occasion, the Chief Minister handed over the first work order of Rs 25 lakh to Mawpat Dorbar for the construction of the block.

Earlier, Director, Department of Community & Rural Development, I R Sangma read the government notification.
Among others present at the function include Mawlai MLA, Embhahlang Syiemlieh, Chief Secretary, Y Tsering and Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, P S Dkhar, MAwlai MDC, P.T. Sawkmie and residents of Mawpat nad adjoining areas.
