Shillong | 31 July 2025: The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India, will be conducting a nationwide Special Mediation Drive titled ‘Mediation for the Nation’. In alignment with this initiative, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) will launch a similar mediation drive across the state.

The 90-day intensive drive aims to resolve pending cases through mediation in all Sub-Divisional Courts, District Courts, the High Court of Meghalaya, and District Council Courts.

The state-level initiative will be held under the guidance of:

Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya;

Justice H. S. Thangkhiew, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya, Executive Chairman of MSLSA and Chairman of MCPC; and

Justice W. Diengdoh, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya and Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC).

The drive will focus on resolving a wide range of cases, including:

Matrimonial disputes

Motor accident claims

Domestic violence matters

Cheque bounce cases

Commercial and service disputes

Criminal compoundable offences

Consumer disputes

Debt recovery cases

Partition and eviction cases

Land acquisition matters

Other suitable civil disputes

Parties whose cases fall under these categories and have received notice for mediation are encouraged to participate actively in this special drive.

The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority has urged all concerned parties with pending cases in the High Court, District Courts, and District Council Courts to consider resolving their matters amicably through this mediation initiative.
