Shillong, Sept 16, 2025: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) will launch the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” (SN-SPA) on September 17, 2025, as part of the nationwide health and nutrition campaign jointly led by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Women & Child Development (MoWCD). The campaign, aligned with Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month), will run until October 2, 2025.
Noted social activist, writer, and journalist Padma Shri Patricia Mukhim has been invited as the Chief Guest to formally inaugurate the campaign at a special function to be held at NEIGRIHMS.

Speaking ahead of the launch, NEIGRIHMS Director, Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, said the campaign will focus on key areas such as women’s and children’s health, adolescent health, maternal care, and a comprehensive approach to preventive, promotive, diagnostic, and curative services.
He further stated that NEIGRIHMS will organize health camps in outreach areas, screen for non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity, as well as cancers such as cervical, breast, and oral cancer, anaemia, and tuberculosis. The campaign will also promote nutrition and hygiene awareness — including balanced diets and menstrual hygiene — and feature activities such as lifestyle counselling, mental health awareness sessions, blood donation drives, and the involvement of Anganwadi centres.
Prof. Mehta emphasized that NEIGRIHMS, with its specialized workforce and robust infrastructure, is well-equipped to lead quality screening, treatment referrals, and capacity-building initiatives. He assured that the institute will work in close collaboration with the State Government to ensure a successful and impactful campaign.
