Shillong, Oct 13: A delegation of SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) teachers, led by their President Aristotle Rymbai, met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today to discuss long-pending issues related to teachers’ salaries and service matters.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rymbai described the discussion as “very constructive and productive.” He said the meeting primarily focused on two key agendas — the state government’s proposed takeover of SSA schools and the implementation of a proper service structure for SSA teachers.

According to Rymbai, the Chief Minister informed the delegation that both demands were already in the final stage of consideration. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, to be chaired by the Chief Minister himself, and attended by the Education Minister and senior officials of the Education Department.

“We believe that after Thursday’s meeting, we will have a clearer picture regarding the government’s decision on our demands,” Rymbai said.

When asked about the recent Supreme Court order concerning SSA teachers, Rymbai clarified that the matter was not discussed during today’s meeting, though it had been raised earlier with the Education Minister. He expressed optimism that a written assurance from the Chief Minister would follow Thursday’s meeting.
