Shillong, Oct 14: Langsning concluded their Shillong Premier League 2025 campaign in style with a commanding 5-0 victory over Malki SC at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, here this evening.
Samuel Phawa led the scoring with a brace (35’, 40’), followed by goals from Donlad Diengdoh (74’) and Nelson Rymbai (84’), while Pynkhlainbok Wahlang added an own goal in stoppage time (90’+4).
With this result, Langsning became the first team to complete all their fixtures, finishing on 20 points from nine matches — with six wins, two draws, and one loss. They temporarily returned to the top of the table, ahead of defending champions Shillong Lajong (18 points, one match in hand) and Mawlai (15 points, two matches remaining). Malki, meanwhile, remain in ninth place with 6 points and one game left, still within the relegation zone.
Even if they fall short of the title, Langsning are assured of a Top 3 finish, a remarkable turnaround from their sixth-place finish in SPL 2024.
The result was largely one-sided, with Malki struggling throughout against the high-flying Langsning. The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Samuel tapped in a sharp cross from Nelson. Just five minutes later, Samuel doubled the lead after Malki failed to clear a loose ball in the box.
Langsning went into the break 2-0 up and maintained their impressive record of not conceding any first-half goals all season.
In the second half, Malki showed brief resistance, with goalkeeper Franklin Surong denying Nelson in the 63rd minute, while an offside call ruled out another Langsning goal soon after. However, Langsning regained momentum as Apborlang Kurbah provided two brilliant assists from the right — first for Donlad’s flying header and then for Nelson’s finish to make it 4-0.
Goalkeeper Rajat Paul Lyngdoh kept his fourth clean sheet of the season before a late own goal by Pynkhlainbok capped off Malki’s misery in stoppage time.
Tomorrow, Laitkor (8th) will face Sawmer (6th) at 4:30 PM. Laitkor need a win to ensure safety from relegation, while Sawmer could rise to fifth place with a victory and still have one match in hand.
