Shillong, Oct 26: Meghalaya began their campaign in the Sub-Junior Boys National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2) with a stunning 6–1 victory over hosts Chhattisgarh in Narainpur today.

After a goalless first 30 minutes, Meghalaya broke through spectacularly, scoring four goals before half-time. The onslaught began with Macstar Nongkynrih (33’), followed quickly by a brace from Marbiang Marwein (34’, 34’), while Wanpyndapbor Nongsiej (45’+2) added the fourth in stoppage time.

In the second half, Iaishanborlang Khongjee (69’, 78’) netted twice, either side of Chhattisgarh’s lone strike in the 72nd minute. Marbiang Marwein was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Coached by Dapmon Tariang, Meghalaya now sit on top of Group C after the first round. However, only the group winners will progress to the semifinals, making consistency crucial for the young side.

Meghalaya will next face Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday at 8:30 AM. Andhra earlier lost their opener 3–2 to Himachal Pradesh.
