Shillong, Oct 27: Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the Meghalaya Police during a joint operation conducted by the Special Cell and the Special Operations Team (SOT) at ISBT junction, Mawlai Mawiong, on Sunday night.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the individuals were travelling in a tourist vehicle bearing registration number ML 05C 1358 when they were intercepted by the police team.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lelepa Begum (40), Musanat Jahana Khatoon (35), Md Imammul Hassan (18), Md Alamgir Mia (25), and Md Fajid Bilal (47).
“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the individuals failed to produce valid travel documents and admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals,” SP Syiem said on Monday.
A case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain their route of entry and purpose of visit.
