Shillong, Nov 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) sweeping performance in the Bihar Assembly elections has energised the party’s Meghalaya unit, with state president Rikman G Momin calling the result “wonderful” and expressing confidence of a strong showing in the 2028 Meghalaya Assembly polls.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Momin said the Bihar mandate, in which the BJP emerged as the single-largest party within the NDA alliance, has reinforced the party’s belief in its growing influence.
“In 2028, we will be giving you very shocking results in Meghalaya,” he declared.

Asked whether the BJP expects to improve its current tally of two MLAs, Momin responded affirmatively. “Definitely. When L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji were two in 1984, the party grew. So definitely in 2028, we have two MLAs, we may increase, and you will see the increase. Definitely, we will be getting double figures in 2028 in Meghalaya.”

On the preparations for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, the state BJP president said the party is working intensively at the grassroots level and expects a notable rise in its seat share.

Momin also took a swipe at the Congress, saying the Bihar results reflect the party’s declining national relevance. “It is clearly shown in the Bihar election that Congress is nowhere. They may get three; they are getting only single digit,” he remarked.

The BJP leadership believes that the momentum from Bihar, coupled with organisational expansion in Meghalaya, will position the party strongly for the electoral challenges ahead.
