Shillong, January 16: The Meghalaya State Council of Contractors, Suppliers and Welfare Association has raised concerns over delayed payments, lack of transparency in tendering processes, and procedural hurdles affecting contractors across the state.
Addressing the media after the Association’s General Body Meeting held at Bharat Scouts and Guides here on Thursday, General Secretary Bah R. Khongwar said the meeting deliberated on several challenges faced by contractors, particularly delays in release of payments, fair implementation of contract conditions, and transparency in the tendering system.
Khongwar stressed the need to protect the rights and dignity of contractors and called for stronger coordination between government departments and contractors to ensure timely execution of development works. He pointed out that small and medium contractors are increasingly burdened by procedural delays and rising operational costs, urging the government to simplify processes and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
Meanwhile, Association member Kong Sony Kharjana highlighted issues related to contract documentation and departmental procedures. He emphasized the importance of clear guidelines, fair evaluation of tenders, and equal opportunities for local contractors to participate in government projects.
Both leaders reiterated that the Association would continue to raise genuine concerns through dialogue and lawful means to safeguard the interests of contractors while contributing to the overall development of the state.
