Shillong, April 19: “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). This message from the letter of St. Paul formed the central theme of reflection at the 17th Annual Meet General of the Synjuk Seng Rangbah Katholik Shillong Archdiocese, held at Assumption Parish, Nongpoh.
The assembly was conducted under the leadership of Bah Richard Kahit, President of the Synjuk, along with Spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Andreas Pariat and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Peter Syiemlieh of Nongpoh.
Delivering his homily as the chief celebrant during the Holy Mass, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh elaborated on the deeper meaning of the term “Rangbah” in Christ, drawing from the Gospel and the writings of St. Paul.
The Archbishop emphasized that the role of a “Rangbah” is not merely a title but a profound responsibility within both society and the Church. He stated that a Rangbah, or father figure, must be a wise and exemplary leader who takes responsibility for the well-being of the family and the wider community.
Referring to Biblical teachings, he noted that a Rangbah must lead a disciplined life, remain firm in faith, and guide the family along the path of righteousness. He further highlighted that fathers have a crucial duty to nurture their children in faith, teach them to love and praise God, and instill strong moral and spiritual values.
Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh also urged all Rangbah to remain steadfast, patient, and committed in fulfilling their responsibilities, so that they may become true leaders both in the Church and in society.
The day-long assembly concluded in the evening with Eucharistic Adoration, followed by the ceremonial lowering of the Synjuk flag by the Archbishop and the singing of the anthem of St. Joseph. It was also announced that the 18th General Assembly will be hosted at Umbir Parish under Zone VII.
During the programme, the Synjuk Seng Rangbah Katholik Shillong Archdiocese felicitated David Syiemlieh for his notable contributions to society as an author and senior government officer in the field of education. Others honoured included Bah J. Marweiñ, IAS, and Bah Richard Kahit for his 25 years of dedicated service to the Seng Rangbah.
