Shillong, April 23: Vincent H. Pala, former MP from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, has strongly criticised the Government of India led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressing concern over what he described as increasing instances of injustice and alleged misuse of law.
Speaking at a programme to reorganise party workers at Mylliem Block, Pala said the functioning of the BJP-led government in New Delhi has created unease among citizens, particularly on issues related to religious freedom and social harmony.
He referred to reported incidents involving the alleged harassment of religious figures, including Christian nuns, stating that such developments point to a troubling trend where legal provisions are being used in ways that undermine constitutional safeguards.
“The misuse of law against religious leaders is a matter of serious concern. It is important that the rights and dignity of every citizen are protected,” Pala said.
He added that such actions not only affect individuals but also weaken the democratic fabric of the country by fostering fear and mistrust among communities.
Reiterating the position of the Indian National Congress, Pala said the party would continue to oppose any form of injustice and remain committed to protecting the principles of secularism and equality enshrined in the Constitution.
He also called on party workers and the public to remain vigilant and united in defending democratic values, while working towards a transparent and accountable system of governance.
His remarks come amid ongoing national debates on governance, civil liberties and the role of institutions in upholding constitutional rights.
