Nongpoh, June 8: The Sur u Paidbah Western Ri Bhoi, under Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division, has expressed strong disagreement over the transfer of Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division, Chaitanya Awasthi, and has urged the government to reconsider the decision.

The organisation conveyed its concerns through the media, stating that the transfer is not in the interest of the local population, as the officer had been actively engaged in addressing public issues and providing timely assistance to residents of the area.

According to the group, Patharkhmah remains a developing region that requires committed and responsive officers who can work closely with the people. They added that retaining officers who are effective in public service delivery is essential for the continued progress of the area.

The SDO, who assumed charge of the Patharkhmah Civil Sub-Division in August 2025, is said to have implemented several initiatives within a short span of time that have benefited local communities across villages under the subdivision.

The organisation further stated that the officer’s brief tenure had already created a positive impact on governance and public service delivery, and described his transfer as a setback for the people of the region.

The group has appealed to the state government to allow the officer to continue serving in Patharkhmah, citing the need for continuity in administrative leadership and ongoing development efforts in the area.
