Shillong, July 13: Two promising karate athletes from Meghalaya, Gideon Tympuin and Daniel Dabiangbha Warjri, have been selected to represent India at the 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026, which will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from July 15 to 19.

Gideon will compete in the Men’s U-21 Individual Kata event, while Daniel will represent the country in the Boys’ Junior Individual Kumite (-68kg) category.

Their selection comes on the back of impressive performances at the national level. Gideon won a gold medal for Meghalaya at the 5th KIO Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held in New Delhi in February-March. Daniel, meanwhile, secured a silver medal in the Junior Individual Kumite (-68kg) category at the 5th KIO Sub-Junior, Cadet & Junior National Karate Championship 2026, held in Dehradun in June.

The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) organised a send-off programme for the two athletes on Saturday, during which they were presented with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their achievements.

Congratulating the duo on their selection, AMKA wished them a safe and successful campaign in Dhaka.

“We are confident that they will perform to the best of their abilities and bring laurels to the state and the nation,” the association said in a statement.

The selection of Gideon and Daniel marks another significant achievement for Meghalaya’s karate fraternity, with both athletes now set to represent India on the South Asian stage.
