Shillong May 10: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday stressed the need for overall development of the region and said that education sector is a top priority of the present government.
Speaking on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Shngimawlein government Upper Primary School in Mawkyrwat, the chief minister expressed happiness and satisfaction that the school is moving in the right direction which has been possible only through the hard work and dedication of the founding members of the school and various personalities who had helped elevate the school to its present status.
The school founded by teachers (L) Shri. Srallington Lyngdoh, (L) Wollendro Lyngdoh and (L) Dani Lyngdoh in 1968.
Inaugurating the annexed new building constructed under the Rashtriya Madyamik Shiksha Abhiyan in the presence of Education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, dignitaries, officials, teachers and students, the chief minister said that there is no substitute for hard work and exhorted all to continue their untiring efforts to achieve even greater heights in imparting education to the youth of the area.
Stating that the education sector has a lot of challenges ahead, the chief minister said that maximum effort has to be given by all stake holders to improve education especially the teachers and parents of students.
“The Government is working tirelessly to ensure that the right policy is in place. The education policy will be framed soon and it will give a new direction on how we should move ahead state. The policy will give guidelines “and allow us to move forward in a way so that education sector grows stronger and stronger as we move forwardâ€, he said.
On his maiden visit to South West Khasi Hills after assuming office as Chief Minister, Conrad said “…there are certain areas and regions and districts in the state that really need special attention and special care.â€
Drawing attention to the deplorable road condition in South West Khasi Hills and other regions of the state he said that his government is already in talks with the Centre to boost inter district and inter-state connectivity.
The Chief Minister also attended the felicitation programme organised by the people of South West Khasi Hills in the School Hall of Nativity Secondary School, Mawkyrwat.
The programme was attended by Education minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh, MLA of Ranikor constituency, ex MLA Mawkyrwat, Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, I. Laloo, heads of various organizations and the people of Mawkyrwat.
